Nyumba ya Mungu Power station is in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region. The dam was completed in 1966 and was built for the purpose of storing flood flow, which would allow the development of some 30,000 acres of irrigated farming and generation of electricity power.
The Power station is positioned at the foot of the dam. Water from the dam is discharged from the intake through a reinforced concrete conduit to the powerhouse.
The powerhouse, with installed capacity of 8 MW, is 44m long and 10m high at operating floor level. The Turbines are of low head vertical shaft Francis type supplied by Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon Ltd, Kendal England. Generators were supplied by Bruce Peebles Ltd, Edinburgh.
